Terms & Conditions
TERMS & CONDITIONS OF BUSINESS
We are committed to providing the best possible service for all our customers at a fixed price — that’s our promise to you. However, like any business, there are a few essential terms and conditions you should be aware of.
PRICING
-
We operate a fixed pricing system for standard sweeps and straightforward jobs.
-
Our quotation is based on the information you provide about the appliance or chimney to be swept. If important details are omitted — for example, if the fireplace is larger than average or there are known issues — we reserve the right to revise our quotation upon arrival. You may choose not to proceed with the service at that stage.
-
If a problem arises during the visit (such as a blockage or flue issue), the sweep will inform you before continuing if any additional charges may apply.
-
Should you decide not to proceed once work has started, we reserve the right to apply a partial charge to cover our time, travel, and any work already undertaken.
CANCELLATION
-
We understand that life can be busy. If you need to change or cancel an appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. We allocate specific time slots for each customer, and late cancellations may prevent us from rebooking that time.
-
If no one is present when we arrive, or if we are unable to gain access to the property, we reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee of up to 100% of the quoted price.
-
We also reserve the right to charge for late cancellations (less than 24 hours’ notice), in accordance with the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
PAYMENT
-
Payment is due at the time of service, unless other arrangements have been agreed in advance.
-
Payment options include:
• Debit or credit card payments
• Bank transfer (BACS) – details and reference will be provided at the time of service
• Invoice by email – payable within 7 days -
Payments not received within 7 days may incur interest at 2% per annum above the Bank of England Base Rate.
METHOD OF SWEEPING
-
A chimney cannot be swept using only a vacuum cleaner. Brushes or rotary power sweeping equipment must be used.
-
Power sweeping equipment (a drill-powered rotary system) will only be used where the chimney’s condition is suitable.
NESTS OR BLOCKAGES
-
It is illegal to remove live bird nests (typically found April–June when Jackdaws are nesting). In such cases, we will arrange to return once it is lawful to remove the nest. Please do not request removal during the nesting season.
-
If sweeping cannot be carried out due to a nest, a call-out charge may apply but will be credited when we return to complete the work.
POTENTIAL PROBLEMS
-
While every care is taken to prevent damage, we cannot be held responsible for defective or deteriorating chimney pots, cowls, stacks, fireplaces, or other components. Please inform us of any known issues such as age, condition, or previous damage.
-
We cannot accept responsibility for pre-existing faults or issues that arise during sweeping that were not apparent beforehand or not disclosed by the customer.
-
Our sweeps will advise and take precautions to avoid damage. In some cases, we may recommend remedial work before proceeding, or ask you to sign a disclaimer if you wish to continue. This is for your protection.
-
We sweep all types of solid fuel, wood, oil, and gas appliances in domestic and commercial premises. However, some installations (particularly certain woodburning stoves) may have been improperly fitted or lack access for sweeping. In such cases, we may be unable to proceed but will provide appropriate advice.
-
Stainless steel flue liners are not indestructible. We use the most suitable brushes, but excessive tar build-up may limit how aggressively we can clean. We will always act with care and professionalism.
-
For Aga and Rayburn flues, please ensure the appliance is switched off and fully cooled (minimum 24 hours) before our visit. If the appliance is too hot to sweep, a call-out fee may be charged.
CERTIFICATES OF SWEEPING
-
Many insurance companies require a certificate of sweeping. We provide a certificate for every chimney serviced, and details are securely retained should you need a copy.
-
This certificate is not a warranty or guarantee of safety, as we do not perform CCTV inspections or integrity testing unless requested. It confirms that a brush or appropriate device has passed through the flue and that soot and debris have been removed to the best of our ability.
FITTING CAGES, CAPS & COWLS
-
When accessing chimney stacks, it may be necessary to use a roof ladder. We take great care to avoid damage to tiles or guttering and rely on you to inform us of any pre-existing roof issues.
WEATHER
-
Outdoor work (such as fitting cages, caps, or cowls) is weather dependent. If conditions are unsuitable, we may need to postpone the appointment, but will reschedule as soon as possible.
